This informal group, formed under the wing of the Cheshire Local History Association, is a forum for anyone engaged in research on any aspect of Cheshire’s history. Meeting four times a year, the group provides an opportunity to link up with other researchers, for mutual support and for the exchange of ideas and information.
At each meeting one member of the group opens the meeting by talking about an aspect of her or his ongoing research and discussing this with the group. The second hour takes the form of a general forum when all members can talk about aspects of their own research.
New members are always welcome. All meetings are held on Saturdays in the meeting room at Cheshire Record Office, Duke Street, Chester, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, with the room remaining open until 1.30 pm for anyone who would like to stay on, to continue with informal discussion over a packed lunch (tea and coffee provided). Remaining meetings in 2007 will be on 19 May, 15 September and 17 November.
Our speaker on 19 May will be Wendy Bawn, who will tell us about ‘Bolesworth Castle and Estate – an on-going research project’.
On 15 September Alex Malthouse will describe his research into ‘The changing nature of Northgate Street (Chester) Inns and Taverns 1795-1905’.
On 17 November Patricia Faraday will explain why it was ‘Better In than Out – Life in the Northwich Workhouse, 1875-1910’.
If you would be interested in coming along please contact David Hayns, Stoke Cottage, Church Street, Malpas, Cheshire SY14 8PD (Tel: 01948 860486 E-mail: david@hayns.com ).
The group is very grateful to the Cheshire Record Office for its hospitality and to the Cheshire Local History Association for its support for the group.
